Top Tips When Buying Sports Tickets

By: Bret Robson

Buying sports tickets for major events, if not done right, can make the difference between having a good or bad time. Here are some of the pitfalls to watch out for when buying your tickets for several of the most popular sporting events in the UK.

The Ryder Cup

Always a fiercely fought competition, this bi-annual battle between the USA and Europe is always guaranteed to make ticket-locating a tough task. Some would say you have more chance finding a needle in a Belfry bunker.

Tickets for the Ryder Cup are sold from official outlets for all levels of admission, and access to the grandstands is not usually pre-allocated, but available on a first-come-first-served basis.

One way to ensure entry is to volunteer to work during the event. There are always positions available each time the tournament is played, and applications can be made directly through the official site.

Whatever you do, don’t try sneaking onto the course. Security at this event is top-notch and you’ll find yourself in jail until the first Judge becomes available on Monday morning.

Wimbledon

Tickets for Wimbledon are not easy to get unless you are willing to pay upwards of two grand for a Debenture, but there are ways to ensure entry to the Centre Court short of being adopted by the Royal Family or Cliff Richard.

Because standard tickets are only released on the actual day of play, internet purchasing is often quite tough unless you want to gamble. But if you are prepared to, there is one excellent way of guaranteeing entry to a specific court.

And that is to queue from midnight the night before. We’ve all laughed at them lining up seven hours ahead to get their hands on tickets to see Agassi or Henman, but in reality, they know something about the system that works every time.

Early morning, a steward will guide the queue towards the gates where you will be asked what court you want. Depending on your answer, you will be given a colored wristband guaranteeing your ticket for a seat for the day. At the ticket booth you can put your sleeping bag away, and your ticket will be exchanged for the wristband for a fraction of what the All England Lawn Tennis Club charge a year in advance.

The FA Cup Final

The jewel in English football crown, this match is watched by 400 million people in 200 countries, a statistic that reinforces its popularity, and thus, the degree of difficulty involved in getting hold of a match ticket. Even with 71,200 general admission seats and 8,800 corporate and other seating, the chances of getting a ticket – with your club or not – are limited.

Most allocations are split down the middle between each club. This is your first opportunity, as many of these tickets go to supporters clubs before ending up on the Internet for greatly inflated prices. Watch out for forgeries though – you won’t get your money back and you will pay over the asking price.

The remaining tickets go to other member clubs, the press, players, and sponsors, and it is here it could be possible to get hold of a ticket providing you know somebody who works in the stadium or an associated sponsor company.

Your only other alternative is to offer your services as a ball boy/girl, but if you are a 40-year old pot-bellied Chelsea fan, you might be a little easy to spot!

British Grand Prix

Tickets for the world famous Formula One racing track at Silverstone are thankfully much easer to bag, though none of them come cheap. Official tickets start at around £100 for the three-day package, or £40 for a day ticket.

Buying early is really your only option as Silverstone is one of the most sought after, and fast-booking events on the UK sporting calendar.

You could of course try an auction site, but another way of bagging tickets is to convince your boss to take important clients out for the day. Hospitality packages start at around £900, for which you’ll get a gourmet meal, champagne, and the best view of Lewis Hamilton racing around the Copse. Any clients you take along will remember you and your company forever.

The Six Nations Championship

Most tickets for rugby internationals are dealt with by the individual bodies from each of the countries involved, so being a member of a rugby club puts you at the head of the queue. It also means you can buy tickets from any of the unions no matter whom you support or where you are from.

But what if you don’t play or support rugby?

The one thing to remember about rugby is that supporters are generally quite friendly, hence the non-segregation policy in all of the stadia. This international jolliness has helped pushed ticket touts out of the picture, but not genuine sellers.

Most people offering tickets on the street before a game are usually only trying to recoup their money, not tout, so it is at this point you may be able to get hold of a ticket for equal to or less than face value.

How To Make Money As A Sports Ticket Broker

by Al Terry

When many people hear the term sports ticket broker they think of a guy who has some sort of brick and mortar store selling sports tickets to those in need. The idea of a a company with a lot of overhead, tons of money to purchase large amounts of tickets and a license to do this all legally. This may have been true years ago but today many are selling sports tickets for their favorite teams right on their websites and making a nice amount of money. The idea here is to not be the sports ticket broker, but to be an affiliate for a sports ticket broker. To define the term affiliate in the Internet marketing world, this is more or less a salesperson for a company who garners sales for the business and in return receives a commission for each sale. These sales are all tracked electronically through codes which you put on your website.

If you are a huge football fan and the Philadelphia Eagles are your favorite team which you know everything about and follow without missing a beat. The idea here is that you would create a website devoted to the team and begin to market that site to draw targeted traffic. The way you do this is by adding quality content on a daily basis and then searching for related sites which would enjoy a link partnership with you.

Then you would look for a sports ticket broker site or affiliate program which offers solid commissions per sale. Shop around and make sure you have a reputable company which offers you the best chance to make the most money for your sports site. Commissions can range from four percent to twenty percent. You also want to confirm that sports ticket broker offers appealing cookies. This may sound like a funny term but is very important. A cookie will track the sale for a certain amount of time. Some sports ticket brokers will offer a thirty day cookie and some may offer a year or even lifetime.

The cookie means that if someone clicks through from your site to the sports ticket broker site one day to look at tickets but does not buy that day, if he returns 30 days later to purchase you will still receive the commission. On a thirty day commission cookie if the customer returns to the sports ticket broker site 31 days later and makes a purchase you will not receive credit for the sale. Commission amounts and cookies are the two main things to look for when deciding on an affiliate partner.

Most affiliate partners are tracked by a third party, so there is no need to worry about the sports ticket broker not making a payment or trying to pretend a sale did not occur. You will be able to log in and check your statistics through the third party company they use for their affiliate company.

This is just a rough idea of what selling sports tickets on the Internet through an affiliate company is about. The idea of how to use your hobby and knowledge to create income on the Internet without the need for overhead and investment. Many people are using these ideas outlined above to tern their interests into a profitable online business. For further information I suggest you begin to research such things as web design, Internet marketing, search engine optimization, HTML code and affiliate programs.

A good baseball coach needs to train the players with the required skills and strategies of the game of baseball. Any good coach will try his best to help his team win. The above addictions cause the health to deteriorate largely. It breaks down your energy. It creates havoc in your body. A good coach needs to motivate his players to perform to the hilt. He must teach them tricks and give them small tips on the game like When the ball comes at a great speed, the batter must not flex his muscles and tightly hold the bat to hit. This will hinder the effect of the bat once more. Instead, he needs to hold the bat lightly and hit quick. Another tip is that a batter must always try to gauge the strategy of the pitcher to the extent possible. Once the batter is sure about the moves the pitcher can make, he will be able to tackle it better. There are various ticks and secrets in the game of baseball. A good coach will know them and will train his team accordingly.

A good coach must encourage his team members to use the force of adrenalin in their body. He must be competent enough to excite his players to put in their best performance and win. Adrenalin can make you stronger and more focused. It can make you win a losing game. So a good coach needs to teach his players to utilize the rush of adrenalin in the body in an effective way to win.

MLB Tickets - History Of The American Pastime

by Al Terry

Baseball is one of the four major sports in the United States - the other three being Basketball, Football, and Ice Hockey - and is well entrenched in the American culture. Baseball had its beginnings in mid 19th century, and the game was still in its nascent stage, when in the spring of 1857, the Knickerbocker club of New York City and several other baseball clubs gathered together to draw out a standardized set of rules for the game. This was the beginning of the National Association of Base Ball Players, which in 1958, the following year, became the body that ruled the game and kept it an amateur sport. The National Association was not very strong and by 1867, rivalries had grown among the teams, and players who were paid started to make appearances. By 1969, the National Association had teams that paid and those that did not pay, and the Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first professional baseball club in the United States. In 1871, the first professional baseball league - the National Association of Professional Baseball Players - was formed. This Association could not control the gambling and corruption of its members, and soon became ineffective.

The Association soon became as good as extinct, and in 1876, the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs was formed, of which the teams from Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Hartford, Louisville, New York, Philadelphia and St. Louis, were its charter members. The National League was an organization of clubs rather than of players, which the National Association was, and the powers rested with its five directors, led by Morgan G. Buckley, the first President of the League.

Dead Ball Era

Baseball, in America, has seen many ups and downs, along with many great players. The first couple of decades of the 20th century were the Dead Ball Era in baseball. This was when the teams used the same ball throughout the game. The ball got softer as the game went on, and fewer, if any, home runs were scored. Scoring was mainly by singles, doubles, and base hits. This era saw very few home runs. However, this era produced great hitters, such as Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb, among others, whereas the great pitchers were Cy Young and Walter Johnson. These hitters could hit the ball exceptionally well, and these pitchers proved that a dead ball could be pitched wherever they wanted to. This was the era that laid the foundation of modern baseball.

The latter years, when more balls were used during a game, baseball produced great players, such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Hank Greenberg, among others, who became the legends of the game.

The Worst Baseball Team Ever - The Philadelphia Phillies 10,000 Loses and Counting

by CJ Carter

They started off on May 1st 1883 as the Philadelphia Quakers. The Quakers lost their first game 4-3 and went on an 8 game skid. This is how the Philadelphia Phillies began their march to become one of the worst franchises in professional sports. Not only that, but during their first year, the would be Philadelphia Phillies lost 81 of their inaugural 98 games. So it is no wonder that the Phillies became the greatest losers in sports when they became the first professional team to lose 10,000 games. In typical Phillies fashion, yet another instance of the cruel irony which embodies the Phillies played out when the youngest player ever to reach 100 home runs struck out to end the game and give them they’re 10,000 loss. But Ryan Howard isn’t the first great player to play for a sorry team. Mr. Cub himself Ernie Banks was a 2 time MVP. The Cubs are also one of the worth franchises in history. Ted Williams always seemed to come up short in October when it came to squaring off in the World Series. Tony Gwynn, looked upon by many as the greatest hitter since Ted Williams, never could lay his hands on a ring. Great players and poor teams seem to always form an unholy union.

The point of all this is that it’s not so extraordinary to be a loser. In fact it is much more common to be a loser than a winner. Winners are unique in the fact that they triumph over the masses. So that fact that many news papers made note of the fact of the Phillies 10,000 loses does not make them a horrible organization. Considering they have been in existence for more than 100 years is a testament to their good business sense and means more than their 10,000 loses ever will.

Watch Sports On Your Computer

by Tony Pescatore

People living in American society have taken sports to greater popularity it’s becoming the way of life for Americans. All you have to do is look at the newspapers which devote a whole section of daily sport coverage to such sports as baseball, basketball, golf, football, soccer and much more. If you are involved as a spectator or participant the thrill you get watching your team or playing for your team is like a emotional roller coaster and you would not have it any other way. I love the idea of watching live sports be it on my computer, television or live in person. Nothing beats being there but that can not always be the case especially if your favorite team is playing overseas such as my soccer team I follow Liverpool in the English Premier League. There are software programs out there that let you watch live sports on your computer for a one off lifetime fee. It does not matter if the game is played in America or whichever countries you can get to see the game live if you have the correct software.

I can not wait to see Liverpool play Chelsea in the Championship League semi final on my computer. Be it watching my favorite basketball team Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, World Series Baseball, NFL, NHL they can all be seen live on any computer that has Internet access. To be able to watch sports on your computer is a great way to follow your team when you cannot be there in person.

Why is sport so popular is it the anticipation of what is going to happen next, is it the competitive nature or is it the euphoria of winning. What ever it is it can bring people closer together. For me when I support a team I always believe my team is going to win no matter what and once the game is over no matter the result I accept it win lose or draw. Watching sport with family and friends be it on my computer, television or live in person for me it’s a enjoyable experience as we go through a roller caster ride during the contest.
